The Need To Take A Closer Look At Judaism Today

What We Can Learn From The Jewish Scholars From The Past

By Mark Kigler

I assume you are reading this on a Messianic webpage or blog or a christian site.

Of course, if you are asking what is Messianic, specifically Messianic Judaism, you

need to do a Google search and read that definition first, before you continue here.

Messianic Judaism Today covers a diverse spectrum of belief, theology, doctrine and practice.

There are those that follow a Baptist approach, believe in the trinity, to others that go the other way towards an "orthodox Torah approach" and everything in between.

The beginning of modern messianic Judaism has it's roots in Protestant Christianity and Baptist oriented Hebrew Christian  organizations, such as Jews For Jesus and Chosen People Ministries (formerly American Board of Missions To the Jews-ABMJ)

They operate with a "missions approach" that emphasizes salvation and minimizes one's Jewish identity, except when it benefits their end result of bringing someone to Messiah(Christ).

There are also a few organizations that "try" to keep a certain degree of Jewish identity (Yiddishkeit), but as with all the above groups, they too are firmly rooted in christian doctrine and theology.

They throw in a mishmash of old covenant (tenach), new covenant (B'rit Hadasha), Talmud and other stuff. Still with a root in   Constintinian doctrine and history, many Jews who give us a look are at the least confused, and at the worst angry and turned off.

There are some in an "out of the box" approach are changing the way we view Yeshua and the New Covenant writings. One such group is Kabbalah Nation.

Before I go on,let me make it clear, that this kabbalah is NOT your Madonna's kabbalah. It is firmly rooting in Torah (G-D's word)  and gives a deeper understanding of what the L-rd has to say.

Zusha Kalet, who is the founder of Kabbalah Nation, has written a groundbreaking work, called the "Kabbalah Of Yeshua"   This book takes the reader through a "primer" on Kabbalah, and begins to reveal a deeper understanding of the New Covenant  through Yeshua's eyes and His Disciples.

The book in no way is offensive, cultish or disparaging to one's faith. On the contrary.it is eye opening and peels off another layer to expose  truths that the reader may have never realized before.

Kabbalah has been very much a part of the Jewish mindset for centuries.Studied within the framework of Torah it is an effective way to reach a much more satisfying relationship with people we relate to,and definitely draw nearer to G-D.

There are other valuable resources that are available ,especially in the 21st century technology via the internet.  A good place to start would be at http://truejewschool.com

A word from Leah Lawrence (Editor and WebMaster of True Jew School)

While we agree with Mark (he is one of our most valued contributors/writers) we also must stress that we are grateful to organizations who introduce the Jewish people to Yeshua, especially organizations founded by Jewish people.  However Christian groups who have wonderful outreaches to the Jewish people would themselves be edified by looking further into the traditions, scriptures and interpretations as understood by our people when Yeshua walked this earth.  Of course, He is the ultimate authority, but all people have much to learn from the wisdom of our sages and mystics.
